Felony Perjury Charge Dismissed Before Trial

Lucas Taylor represented a defendant charged with perjury in Webster County. Perjury is a class “D” felony in Iowa, exposing the defendant to up to five years in prison, substantial financial penalties, and the long-term consequences of a felony conviction.

Lucas repeatedly challenged the legal and evidentiary basis for the prosecution. He filed a motion to dismiss, later renewed and supplemented that motion as the case developed, and filed additional pretrial motions addressing the evidence the State intended to present at trial.

The State resisted the defense motions, and the case remained scheduled for a jury trial. With the hearing on Lucas’s motions and trial approaching, the State moved to dismiss the charge. The court granted the motion, and the felony perjury case was dismissed.
